Health over money.

Kannur, North Kerala. Mascot Beach Resort.

After a 6 hour train journey from Ernakulum Junction, Kochi to Kannur - I'd bought a ticket further north to Payyannur, but got off at Kannur for this hotel booked through MakeMyTrip.com.

Long story why. Partly to do with something the Casualty doctor said.

Anyway, I enjoyed the 6 hour train journey. After the first 38 hour wonder from Mumbai to Ernakulum, through hot, dusty Andhra Pradesh - 6 hours seems like a short hop from Zone 1 to Zone 3 on the London Underground. And it's far far cheaper. Oy, Boris, you Joker - did you hear that? A six-hour train journey in India costs about £1.50. You can't even go one feckin' stop on the Underground for that.

I felt that I'd finally ARRIVED IN INDIA when I got to this hotel on the night of Tuesday 5 March.

Right by the sea. Pitch black. Dining tables set out with candles, lanterns dotted along the wall. Waves crashing and roaring into the thick darkness below. Lighthouse cutting light across the syrupy night.

I'm still too low in energy to write much. Plus too many glitches on this flipping blog. Such hard work. India can be such hard work. Especially if you're quite poorly, and travelling on your own, and it's your first time here.

Thank fuck that Kerala is just about the best place for it! People genuine, trustworthy and very honest.

Plus, I think I'll need more distance on this whole Indian experience before I can do it real justice.

Till then. I appear to be getting better. In spite of my intense dislike of western pharmaceutical drugs. Sometimes, they are a must.

Besides, I'm seeing my two favourite aunties in Taipei on 24 March. If they see me as thin as this ... Yikes. There'll be trouble. It's also the first time that both of them have been in Taipei since I left there in 1968. Amazing.

Don't be surprised if I don't write anything until my return to Mumbai on 19 March.

This holiday is costing me a fortune. Then again, I didn't expect to get so ill.
